The façade of 801 Grand has been reenergized. The iconic skyscraper was outfitted with new high-efficiency, low-maintenance LED fixtures that emit a whiter, brighter light, illuminating perhaps the most recognizable building in the Des Moines skyline from top to bottom. It is the first time in more than a decade the entirety of the building has been lit.
This update comes as part of a $284 million renovation of the Principal Financial corporate headquarters campus in downtown Des Moines, a 7-year project for which OPN Architects served as the master planner and primary architect. The project includes the renovations of three buildings and three skywalk bridges, and exterior improvements to several buildings on the campus.
