CRPL Receives 2015 AIA/ALA Library Building Award

Since opening in 2013, the Cedar Rapids Public Library has been continually recognized for its thoughtful and welcoming design. The streak continues with the recent receipt of the 2015 American Institute of Architects/American Library Association Library Building Awards.

The city of Cedar Rapids lost a valuable community space when the floods of 2008 destroyed the original downtown public library. In the wake of the disaster, the community rallied to build a new library, and with OPN Architects at the helm of design, the new downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library has given the community more than it expected. Nestled against Green Square Park, the city’s urban park, and facing the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, the new building pushes the boundaries of what a library can do for a community and has become a landmark for beautiful design in the city.

OPN Architects is proud and excited to receive the AIA / ALA Library Building Award for the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Check out this Architect magazine article for more information and comments from the jurors.
