OPN invites next generation of architects to Cedar Rapids studio to share their big ideas

When kids learn about architecture, big things happen. Architecture marries many in-demand skills such as critical thinking, creativity, math, science, public speaking, and problem solving.

In celebration of World Architecture Day, OPN Architects invites students ages 12 to 18 to the firm’s Cedar Rapids studio, 200 Fifth Ave. SE, on Oct. 6 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. to get a hands-on look at architecture as a practice and a profession.

Students will learn about what architects and interior designers do day-to-day, the design process and digital tools, as well as what education and skills come in handy in the profession.

The afternoon will end with a design challenge. Architects work with students to design and develop their own “big idea” for a building. Concepts will be judged by a panel of OPN architects and prizes for first through third and two honorable mentions will be awarded.

To sign up for Future Architects Day at OPN, fill out this registration form. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. Sign up is required by Oct. 2.
