John Kerner joins Des Moines office

John Kerner has returned to OPN Architects’ Des Moines office as an intern architect. John was previously a summer intern while receiving his Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University.  While at ISU John’s studio work was recognized for being in competitions such as the BWBR Prize in the Spring of 2011 and the CSI Comprehensive Design Prize in the Fall of 2013. Additionally his work has been featured in publications like Iowa Architect, CENTER 19: Curtains and Datum, the Iowa State University student publication. John also won numerous scholarships including the Charles F. Bowers Studies in Architecture and Culture Alumni Award, OPN Architects Scholarship and HGA Architects Scholarship. His Spring 2013 “Chamber Memoriam” studio project represented ISU at the Research in the Capitol in Des Moines and the Undergraduate Research Symposium at ISU. John is currently working on Whittier Elementary’s expansion in Indianola, Iowa. John is originally from Shellsburg, Iowa.
