Katie Harms continues to advocate for young architects

Katie Harms, AIA, a Project Manager at OPN Architects’ Cedar Rapids studio, was featured in the June issue of Connections, an architecture and design journal of AIA’s The Young Architects Forum.

Katie, who is currently the AIA Young Architect Regional Director for the Central States Region, began her service to the AIA in 2004 as a member of the AIA Iowa Chapter Young Architects Committee. She’s also served as an Associate Representative to the AIA Iowa Board of Directors and the AIA Iowa Emerging Professionals Chair. Katie also helped select the current Executive Director of AIA Iowa.

As the  AIA Central States Region Associate Director, she co-founded the CSR Emerging Professionals Committee, which develops platforms and programs for Associates, students and professionals.

A native of Eastern Iowa, Katie continues to serve her community in groups such as ImpactCR, Junior League of Cedar Rapids, leadership for Five Seasons Advisory Board, and Habitat for Humanity. She also works to engage students in design fields from a young age by participating in STEM events and speaking at area schools.

In 2012, Katie received the AIA National Young Architect Award for her many achievements and professional leadership.
