On October 31, 2014, the Iowa Board of Regents gave approval for the schematic design, project description, and budget for the construction of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. OPN Architects is collaborating with SLAM Collaborative on the new $96.3 million facility in Iowa City, Iowa. The project also includes a remodel of portions of the existing south tower and the demolition of the 1961 building and Quadrangle Residence Hall.
The new state-of-the-art building was greatly needed, and will be designed with student collaboration in mind. Student learning spaces are critical for the success of a student and provide a dedicated zone to learn. The learning spaces will give students a greater focus on team-based learning and enhanced critical thinking skills, state-of-the-art research space, and utilization of cutting-edge technology.
The $96.3M project will be funded by state appropriations combined with University and College of Pharmacy contribution and investments. Construction is scheduled to begin spring 2016.
