Alex Michl

Having been with OPN Architects for over 10 years, Alex has lent his design talents and most recently expounded on visual media as OPN’s Multimedia Creative Strategist. Alex was born and raised in the Midwest and obtained his Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University. He has a passion for design, combined with his digital imagery and presentation skills. One of his most recent accomplishments is the 2021 AIA Film Challenge People’s Choice Award winner for his film, “A Jewel in Appalachia”. With his architecture background and his craft in storytelling, he aims to reach the boundary of how the narrative of the built environment can impact all.

Q: What inspires your work?

A: I imagine how a space can look and feel through imagery. I think to myself, “If this was a beautifully composed photograph, how would it look?”

Q: When did you know you wanted to be an architect?

A: I knew I wanted to be a designer in seventh grade art with Mr. Payne. It was the first time I experienced creating something from nothing.
