Built in a Green Field environment, the Design Engineers offices appear as a simple, single axis office space. Hidden behind clean lines and effective use of space is a story of deep collaborative design in pursuit of the highest sustainability standards. Design Engineers, a long-term engineering partner to OPN, wanted a facility that utilized a variety of sustainability strategies.
The results of a detailed and thoughtful design process are a slender building on a true East/West axis that maximizes daylighting and minimizes energy consumption. The building’s geo-exchange system and other efficiency innovations earned the project all 11 potential points in the mechanical efficiencies category of the LEED Certification process. The building earned a LEED Gold certification in 2010.
Design Engineers occupies the second floor of this multi-tenant facility and makes the first floor available as leasable space. The central limestone feature of the building serves as the lobby, stairwell, and shared conference spaces. The office spaces are divided into several clearly distinguished components. The lobby space, a central production space with a library and printing services, and a section devoted to electrical engineer mirrored by a section devoted to mechanical engineering.
